Mid-Penn Colonial Division - Week 8 Round Up

High School Football Linemen

The Wizard of Oddz breaks down the Week 8 High School Football results for the Mid-Penn Colonial Conference, as well as providing links to related articles and statistics.

This week was home to the season's biggest upset in the Colonial Division which changes the landscape for the Mid-Penn Colonial Division Champion implications. The Mid-Penn Colonial Division Champion odds will be discussed separately in an upcoming article.

Greencastle 10 - Waynesboro 42 - Brady Beckner added 120 yards to his season rushing total to push his season total over the 1,000 yard mark. Brady Riddell also had a big night going 5 - 5 passing for 132 yards and 2 Tds and added another 2 Tds on the ground. This one was all Waynesboro, however Greencastle's Ian Gelsinger did add a lone bright spot for the Blue Devils hitting a 46 yard field goal to start the 4th quarter and end the thoughts of a shut out. As of the time of this article Waynesboro sits at 11th in the District 3 AAAAA standings (according to The Wizard) and 17th according to the actual District 3 Power Rankings on the outside looking in at a playoff birth. However, it can be noted the official District 3 Power Rankings as of now have not been updated for the Waynesboro win!

Shippensburg 16 - Northern York 17 - And now we get to the upset of the season. Shippensburg came in to this game on a 10 game regular season win streak and 7-0 in the current season with The Wizard giving the Greyhounds a 70% chance at victory. However, a 35 field goal by Aiden Alves with 18 seconds remaining in the game will live on in infamy as the Polar Bears upset the Greyhounds. Rest assured this will be bar room talk 20 years from now for the Polar Bears. As the Member Berries from South Park would say - "Oh, member Alves kick. Yea I member Alves." Also, you can see the actual kick - here. Adam Houser's 193 yards rushing and Shippensburg's 400 yards of total offense was not enough in this one. While Northern York only mustered together 186 yards of offense, but had 0 turnovers to Shippensburg's 3. Shippensburg still sits comfortably in the District 3 playoff picture at #5, with the Polar Bears starting to climb up the rankings, but at the moment on the outside looking in at #10.

James Buchanan 14 - Big Spring 59 - This was a typical James Buchanan game, an easy victory for Big Springs as Ryan Adams rushed for 155 yards and 2 Tds and Jaret Petty passed for another 3 as Big Springs scored in double digits in each quarter of this game. Big Spring now sits on the fence of making a District 3 AAAA playoff birth.

Mifflin County 35 - West Perry 38 - West Perry proved that they are not only good at losing streaks, but can also produce winning streaks, as the one time basement dweller notched back to back wins. This time at the expense of Mifflin County, as the Mustangs' Dom Salinetro set a single game school record with 365 yards passing with 4 Tds and 2 Ints to lead the way for West Perry.

The Wizard of Oddz Results - The Wizard went 2 - 2 on the week raising his total record to 37-7 on the season in predicting games.
